Summary:

Three linked stories with an Ojibway grandfather, Mishomis, and his grandchild, Noshen, first paddling quietly in a birchbark canoe on a lake where they surprise a loon family. At noon they climb a rocky cliff and wait until an eagle swoops down. Then on a starry night they travel into the forest where they encounter a pack of timber wolves.
