Part 1 describes the government-sanctioned practice of separating Indian children from their families to place them in residential schools or with non-Indian adoptive or foster families. Includes interviews with Diane Poirier, J'net August Martin and Bill Lee who describe hardships they experienced growing up in a non-Indian environment, their loss of identity and their attempts to locate family members. Part 2 presents interviews with two directors of child welfare agencies (Toronto and Winnipeg) who discuss how they run their agencies according to Aboriginal values. A Quebec couple (Algonquin and French) discuss their experiences of adopting and raising two young Aboriginal children.
