A Cree life : the art of Allen Sapp

Summary: The purpose of the book is to provide insight into the life, nature and artistry of the Plains Cree artist Kiskayetum Saposkum, or Allen Sapp, as he is better known. Over fifty major exhibitions of Allen Sapp paintings in the nine-year period 1968-77 affirm an extraordinary public interest in his work and we are well aware that owners of Sapp canvases and his many admirers wish to know more about the man himself. We have written about the central features of his life to explain how he developed from a talented amateur into a professional artist of international renown. His paintings speak for themselves--just as they do for thousands of his admirers--but we have included some of Allen Sapp's comments with his paintings where we felt them to be appropriate and helpful. The Sapp paintings tell the universal story of people on the land. It is hoped that this book will bring honour to the gifted artist and his people as his paintings have themselves done.
