University participation and income differences an analysis of applications by Ontario secondary school students

Summary: Postsecondary educational attainment is important for both the individual and society. A dilemma postsecondary educational institutions and provincial governments often face is how best to price the cost of attending a postsecondary educational institution. On the one hand, it has generally been shown that students with a postsecondary education earn more than those with no postsecondary education. But, on the other hand, it is believed that economic growth hinges on having a well educated society. The former argument leads one to argue for the student paying for tuition while the latter argues for subsidized tuition.
