Summary: "This study was a retrospective cohort study and involved secondary use of population-based administrative databases to examine cancer outcomes for individuals with diabetes versus those without diabetes in Newfoundland and Labrador. ...Results showed that diabetes led to an excess risk of overall cancer, as well as increased risks of colorectal, lung, breast, and non-melanoma skin cancers. These positive associations remained even when age, sex and comorbidity level were controlled for. Trends towards a positive relationship between diabetes and many other cancer types were also observed"--pages 3-4.
