Nova Scotia marine renewable energy strategy

Summary: Nova Scotia has a natural advantage in an innovative, emerging renewable energy resource: the ocean. Surrounded by the ocean, we have abundant marine renewable energy resources from offshore wind, waves and tides--particularly tides. Our Bay of Fundy has more than 160 billion tonnes of water flow with each tide, delivering a commercial potential of approximately 2,400 megawatts of power. Since 2006, considerable attention and resources have been focused on researching and developing in-stream tidal energy in Nova Scotia. The tidal energy industry is still in its infancy and many technical challenges remain before large-scale commercial development will take place.
