Summary: Water is an essential dimension of urban communities. Canadian urban water infrastructure is due for major investments in part due to its age and more importantly for the next generation in its character. The current infrastructure requires considerable energy to operate and thereby the infrastructure is part of global energy challenges and the problem of global climate change. The objective of this report is to reflect on the next generation of urban water infrastructure from a sustainable energy perspective.
