Summary: The Inuit Tapiriit Kanatami (ITK) and the communities of the four Inuit regions of Canada have completed a review of the Canada-wide Strategy for Management of Municipal Wastewater Effluent and Environment Canada's Proposed Regulatory Framework for Wastewater that aim to address the harmful impacts of wastewater discharges on public health and the environment. A fundamental concern with the Strategy and the Proposed Regulatory Framework comes in the geographic and cultural bias that is inherent to the process of advancing from principles to practices in the proposed "roll out" of the Strategy as well as the Proposed Regulatory Framework.
