Closing the economic gap in Northern Manitoba sustained economic development for Manitoba's First Nation communities

Summary: Much has been written on the plight of Canada's Indigenous Peoples over many years. So much so that by now an entire library or two could be dedicated to this issue. This report does not attempt to shed any new light, but rather explores some of the existing work done by others, providing a synopsis that will hopefully help to enlighten the policies of the government of Manitoba. This report recommends that the provincial government take steps to address the real need to relinquish its absolute control over natural resources on unoccupied Crown land in Manitoba and share power with First Nations in Northern Manitoba. This relinquishment and sharing of power with Northern Manitoba First Nations over natural resources is essential if Manitoba is truly concerned about elevating the socio-economic standing of Manitoba's Northern First Nation communities.
