TED Conferences LLC (Added Author). Films for the Humanities & Sciences (Firm) (Added Author). Films Media Group (Added Author).

Summary: Anthropologist Wade Davis is perhaps the most articulate and influential western advocate for the world's indigenous cultures. A National Geographic Explorer-in-Residence, he documents the cultural practices of the people he meets while traveling the globe in books, photographs, and film. He is the recipient of the Gold Medal from the Royal Canadian Geographical Society for his contributions to anthropology and conservation and he also received the Fairchild Medal for Plant Exploration as well as the Explorers Medal, the highest award of the Explorers' Club. Davis beautifully articulates the worldwide Web of belief and ritual that make us human in this TEDTalk and shares breathtaking photographs and stories of the Elder Brothers, a group of Sierra Nevada Indians whose spiritual practice holds the world in balance.
