Summary: |
This edited collection links a wide range of progressive theories, research, and practices in the field of holistic studies that are based upon an alternative paradigm of healing and social change. The text is intended to promote holistic studies in postsecondary education along with offering innovative ideas and practices for both practitioners and people wishing to undertake their own emotional, spiritual, and physical healing. The 30 plus contributors provide a diversity of ways of viewing holistic healing, both ancient and modern, including Indigenous, Eastern, and Western practices such as bodywork, energy medicine, expressive arts therapy, transpersonal psychology, ecopsychology, naturopathy, homeopathy, Ayurveda, traditional Chinese medicine, and Indigenous healing practices. This collection conceptualizes and provides an overview of the field of holism in a critical, integrated manner at the individual, community, national, and global levels. A critical holistic paradigm not only deals with individual healing, but also promotes social action to change the oppressive forces that create so much pain and suffering in the world. The chapters in this collection address critical issues such as colonization, human rights, the environment, peace and conflict, and equity and inclusion. |
