First Nations governance pilot projects challenge and innovation : final report : volume 2 : case studies of First Nations governance projects

Summary: This volume contains the results of an in depth review of twenty-nine (29) First Nation governance projects that were completed with funding support from the Department of Indian Affairs and Northern Development in 2003 and 2004. The twenty-nine First Nation governance projects are presented in a case study format, with the intent of highlighting First Nation achievements, best practices and innovative approaches to the resolution of contemporary First Nation governance issues. As a companion to the final research report contained in Volume 1, this volume provides readers with an opportunity to explore further the experiences of First Nations that undertook governance projects. Projects reviewed in Volume 2 were selected for case study, either because of the governance tools which they ultimately produced or because of the effective use of processes of community engagement they employed through the project. The case studies are discussed in several thematic categories corresponding with the different aspects of First Nation governance addressed through funded projects.
