The program follows several HIV-positive individuals, demonstrating many sides of AIDS--the physical and emotional pain caused by being diagnosed as HIV-positive, the struggle in finding that a loved one has AIDS, and the reaction of community and friends to an HIV-positive diagnosis. The program also looks at problems that are unique to the Native American community, including the false perception that AIDS is a "white man's disease" and how attitudes within the native community about sex, shame, and embarrassment can hinder information programs, costing lives
