Where are the children? healing the legacy of the residential schools = Que sont les enfants devenus? L'expérience des pensionnats autochtones

Summary: Survivors describe the life style, chores, restrictions and expectations of the residential school experiences. Separation from family and culture were the most difficult to accept and emotionally, children shut down. Healing strategies involved retaining their language and gain control again of their lives. Healing is a long process especially for the children who were sexually abused. "We have a moral obligation to heal ourselves and others". Legacy of the residential school system has far-reaching impacts on Aboriginal and non-aboriginal communities.
