No place to go

Summary: Since the early 1960's, more and more mental institutions have downsized and released their patients into the community. Communities, however, have been ill-prepared to accept and look after them. This film focuses on individuals such as Kevin, Roy and Florence who suffer from mental illness and live on the streets. It looks at the services and agencies available to them, such as Vancouver's Triage and Lookout, Edmonton's Boyle Street Co-op and Toronto's Parkdale Area Recreation Centre. There are estimated to be in excess of 100,000 mentally ill homeless people in Canada and only a handful of agencies to which they can turn to for help. Without appropriate services, the mentally ill shuttle from shelter to shelter, from bus stop to alley, often stigmatized, abused and alone.
