Seventh generation : contemporary native writing

Hodgson 1957- Heather (Added Author).

Summary: The law of the seven generations is found in the bible and the teachings of many cultures around the world. Among First Nations, the Iroquois maintain it is a gift from our ancestors, whose overwhelming wisdom is inherent in its cultural, political and philosophical definition. As chiefs, as Leaders, we are to consider carefully, the effects of our decisions on the seventh generation yet to come. Since the Royal Proclamation in 1763, seven generations of Indian people have co-existed with the Europeans who now call this land their home. This generation is a pivotal one in our history and in our development and the future of our people will in large part, depend on them. It is their spirit which will carry our people another seven generations into the future and as part of a nation which is made up of many cultures, we discover that the principles of our ancestors still apply in today's complex world. This book is for the generation of Indian people with whom and for whom I worked as Youth Program Director of the Assembly of First Nations during 1985 which was International Youth Year. They are the Seventh Generation.
