Wild drums : tales and legends of the Plains Indians

Grisdale, Alex, 1896- (Author). Shipley, Nan. (Added Author).

Summary: A short story book compiled by Nan Shipley. These stories are chiefly episodes of individual and tribal courage, and depict life among the Assiniboines, Cree, Sioux, Saulteaux and Blackfoot as it was before the arrival of the European. The stories constitute a rare record of early Indian history, and in retelling them I have attempted to retain as much as possible the unique flavour and idiom found in the original manuscripts. The clean-line sketches by Jim Ellis complement Alex Grisdale's stories.
